HughesNet monthly service costs the exact same amount as Starlink, but the difference in speed is not comparable. HughesNet delivered 34MBPs compared to Starlinks 314MBPS at the service address where this was installed in Rural Montana. Single cable to install through the wall, 15 minutes to activate, and be "Online" I have 3 units in service at this time!
I had no issues with installation, other than getting it to recognize a service address since my address doesn't come up in maps yet but I found a workaround address.
Bigtime thanks to SpaceX - Starlink for this endeavor. I would be using a weak cellular provider for internet if it weren't for this.
That being said I was very disappointed in the purchasing process. While at savebetar , me standing in front of this new tech and hefty price , racking my brain trying to decide if this is a good option . Every employee avoided coming near me , I had way to many questions. It took me at least 45 mins of phone research standing there to make my decision. Never once did someone come ask if I needed any questions answered.
Plus if you’re going to sell equipment like this , you should also have some type of mounting equipment to buy as well . I didn’t realize I would have my new 500$ starlink sitting on the ground until my mount from starlink comes in .
Overall I absolutely love my starlink and am very thankful for it . But with the experience I went through , I would have preferred to buy through starlink instead . Don’t get me wrong I love savebetar but I could tell they didn’t want to deal with this product
We live in rural area of the mountains in central California and were forced to pay $100 a month for 25 mbps internet for just about the same price we get an average of 275 mbps with starlink with 4 kids and a wife that stays on her phone i dont have to worry about a lagging connection
finally i stopped putting it off and made the investment in Starlink. I am extremely glad i did. I was able to pick it up from BestBuy and set it up SAME DAY. The speeds are consistently above 150 mbps, never dipping much below 50 mbps and occasionally reaching 250+ when the starlink satellites align. Plus, if there is ever a better deal for fiber internet in my area and need to cancel, i own this equipment and can subscribe month to month to take internet camping or to more remote locations.
If I had to touch on a few downsides (not enough to diminish the overwhelming positive value of the service) it would be that providing a consistent signal throughout our 2200 sq ft house needed the additional purchase of mesh nodes/boosters. Without one the signal was still around 20-50 mbps in the basement. starlink sells additional routers for $150, but i decided to put in a TP link wifi mesh system though for slightly cheaper and that works great.
I had cox 2 gbs connection for a couple years, I just wanted to try starlink to see what the fuss was all about.
I must say, I love it, I get around 400mbs down, 25-30 up, The installation took less then 10 mins, I was up and running in no time.
I have around 45 devices on my wifi, 8 full HD nest cameras, ipads, smart fridge, tvs, all kinds of stuff running.
I also have two gaming computers playing online games with ZERO issues, latency is around 20ish, not bad for satellite internet, considering cable is around 13-15,
Three days in I called and canceled the cox line, I was paying 210 dollars, including unlimited data and cox care,
I now pay 120 a month, the extra 100 I am saving will pay for the starlink kit in 6 months.
Just keep in mind, it will only get better sooner than you think.
I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to have a nice stable internet connection with wifi 6 and the option to use your own router if needed.
